World Cup 2022 Players That Won’t Get a Chance

17 Nov 2022FIFA World Cup

This year’s World Cup 2022 will be without some of the biggest names in Football. Haaland, Salah, and Pogba are among the others missing the FIFA World Cup.

There is no doubt that the FIFA World Cup is the biggest tournament in Football. It’s held every 4 years with 32 of the best teams in the world competing for the gold trophy. It’s a competition where we get to see the best players in the game compete on the global stage.

But as 32 teams out of the 211 can qualify, it means that unfortunately, some players have to miss out. Especially the World Cup 2022, where we will not get to see some of the best players in the game.

Players like Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland will not be able to compete since their teams didn’t qualify. But the most heartbreaking incident is Paul Pogba’s injury. He will not be able to help his team in the title defence against France.

If you need help with betting tips for this coming World Cup, make sure to keep your eyes on our World Cup betting guide at Betfinal.

Today, we have compiled a list of 5 players who will be missing the World Cup 2022.

1.      Erling Haaland – Norway

We’re starting off with the young blood on our list. Erling Haaland is currently the world’s best young striker. He has had an amazing season in the English Premier League. He managed to score 15 goals in 9 matches.

But he could not shine during Norway’s qualification for the World Cup 2022. He could only score 5 goals in all of the matches. Norway finished third in the group behind Netherlands and Turkey with 18 points.

Although Haaland will not be showing off his skills in the world stage in this FIFA World Cup, this 22 year old will have a lot more opportunities in the future.

2.      Mohamed Salah – Egypt

Even if you ask someone who rarely watches Football rarely, they’ve heard about Mo Salah. He’s one of the biggest stars in Football. As Egypt failed to qualify, we will not get to see Salah on the Football pitch in the Middle East.

Egypt lost the Africa Cup of Nations in February. And once again they lost in the penalties during the World Cup 2022 qualifications.

During the last FIFA World Cup, he could not show fans his best performance because of his injury. He’s currently 30 years old. Will he ever get another chance? That still remains to be seen.

3.      David Alaba – Austria

David Alaba has made a name for himself in the Champions League playing under Real Madrid. The 30 year old has also captained Austria in the past.

But Austria had a disappointing performance when they won 5 out of the 10 qualifying games for the World Cup 2022. David Alaba has made 96 international appearances for Austria and even scored 14 goals as a defender.

But we’re worried if this amazing player will ever get to see the world stage. Austria has failed to qualify for a single FIFA World Cup after 1998.

4.      Martin Odegaard – Norway

Here we have another Norwegian on our list. Just at the age of 23, he’s become a leader for Norway.  He made his debut at the age of 15. After becoming the youngest goal scorer in his country’s Premier League, he got picked up by Real Madrid.

He now plays for Arsenal in London. There is no doubt about the talent of this midfielder. If the team needs space to be created, they always count on Odegaard.

But it’s surprising to see that Norway could not qualify for the World Cup 2022 even with talents like Odegaard and Haaland.

5.      Gianluigi Donnarumma – Italy

After Buffon’s exit from international Football, Italy didn’t have to look too long for a successor.  They soon found one bearing the same name as Buffon. Gianluigi Donnarumma made his debut in 2015 with AC Milan. In 2021, he moved to PSG.

Donnarumma replaced Buffon at the age of 17 and became the youngest goalkeeper for Italy. He was also named UEFA Player of the Tournament in the Euro 2020 Championship.

But as Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup 2022, that means Donnarumma will have to wait until 2026 to make his World Cup debut.
